Sometimes the impact of an experience is difficult to put into words.
For Jewel and Bob Sutherland, their time at The Inn of Last Resort became a defining chapter in their marriage, their walk with Christ and ultimately their ministry. Years later, Jewel has put that testimony into words in an original song, “A Song for The Inn of Last Resort.”
It’s a song about marriage, family, truth and what can happen when we allow God to challenge the way we live.
When God Called Them Back Together
Jewel and Bob came to The Inn during a difficult season in their marriage. They had separated, but God wasn’t finished with their story. He called them back together.
Through Train to Reign, they encountered biblical teaching that challenged them to look differently at themselves, their marriage, their family and their relationship with Christ. They didn’t simply learn principles. They learned how to put those principles into practice.
Jewel describes the experience simply:
“Our lives were forever changed through the teaching that we received here. Now we are in the ministry. Praise the Lord!”
Today, Jewel and Bob serve in ministry together, and their experience at The Inn continues to influence how they live and serve.
Turning Their Testimony Into a Song
Wanting to capture some of what their experience meant to them, Jewel wrote the lyrics to an original song inspired by their journey.
She used AI technology to help put her words to music and then added instrumentation with a Scottish influence as a nod to the Sutherland family’s heritage. While Jewel wrote the lyrics, the voice heard on the recording is not hers.
The result is a deeply personal reflection on what God taught Jewel and Bob and on the biblical principles at the heart of The Inn.
“A Song for The Inn of Last Resort”
Verse 1
From quiet trails to mountain light,
We’ve walked some miles, held on tight.
When weary souls were looking for a place,
We found our harbor, found grace.
Chorus
At the Inn of Last Resort, we learned to see
God’s design for family, for you and me.
Through shadowed times, his promise held,
Our love renewed, our foundation built.
Verse 2
We’re building heroes, strong and bold,
A story waiting to unfold.
Off the couch, we stepped into the fight,
Guided by his mercy, shining light.
Verse 3
Not just a place to rest our heads,
But where the heart and soul are fed.
We train in truth, relationships in Christ,
No simple stop, but a calling sacrificed.
Lyrics written by Jewel Sutherland.
More Than a Song
There are phrases throughout Jewel’s lyrics that capture much of what The Inn is about:
- “We learned to see God’s design for family.”
- “We’re building heroes, strong and bold.”
- “Off the couch, we stepped into the fight.”
- “We train in truth.”
The goal isn’t simply to help people feel better about where they are, but to equip them to grow, to know who they are in Christ, strengthen their relationships, take responsibility for how they live and apply biblical truth when they return to everyday life.
Jewel and Bob experienced that firsthand. Their song is a celebration of how far God has brought them, but it’s also an invitation to others who are serious about growing.
What Could God Do in Your Story?
You don’t have to wait until everything is falling apart to invest in your marriage, your family, or your walk with Christ.
Sometimes you simply know there’s more.
More growth. More maturity. More intentionality. A stronger marriage. A stronger family. A deeper understanding of who you are in Christ and how that should change the way you live.
That’s where Train to Reign comes in. Through biblical and practical teaching, honest accountability and real-world application, The Inn of Last Resort equips individuals, couples and families with tools they can carry home and continue putting into practice.
Jewel and Bob’s story is one testimony of what can happen when you’re willing to be challenged by truth and live differently because of it.
If you’re serious about growing, we’re serious about helping.
